Nice to know

Villa Olanda was built at end 18th century by a Dutch trader named Jean Daniel Peyrot. Since then, it has been a hotel, a residence for the elderly, and a refuge for political exiles from the October Revolution.

Today, in addition to the Ostello, Villa Olanda also hosts the following:

  • Mamma esco a giocare: summer activity centres for children from 3 to 12 years of age, from the first Monday after schools close in the spring to the last Friday before they open in the fall
  • Residential spaces for beneficiaries of incoming hospitality projects of the Waldensian Diaconia, and workshop spaces (bikes, computers and dressmaking)
  • Casa del lavoro – Service of accompanying persons to work in collaboration with Cooperativa Patchanka s.n.c. of Turin

All kinds of visitors find their way to Val Pellice, which proposes an array of offers to satisfy everyone.

The distress suffered by the Waldensian people took place in this marvellous valley surrounded by the Cottian Alps. The presence of the Waldensians has been a fundamental factor in the history and identity of the valley, making it the battle field for freedom of conscience and conferring the pluri-confessional character that makes it unique in Italy. The afflictions of the Waldensians, together with the remarkable beauty of the landscape in the Monviso valleys, together form the ideal purposes of a journey to rediscover a territory that is imbued with its history, traditions and stories.

The situation of the Waldensians and their relationship with European Protestantism is described in the exhibitions and the guided visits at the Centro Culturale Valdese.
